Witch Taint Sons of Midwestern Darkness

Lance The King of Black Metal stops by Inside Music to discuss Witch Taint’s highly-anticipated debut album, Sons of Midwestern Darkness.

Black metal is one corner of music where outcasts are told they can find community. For too long now, however, the artists occupying that realm have existed on pedestals no average person could hope to reach. That accessibility issue has kept fans fully embracing their love of black metal, but thanks to Witch Taint, that trend is changing.

Witch Taint is a band of and for the people. Formed in 2004, the duo crafts heavy tracks for regular people with normal jobs and anxieties. They are a voice for those who struggle to need to maintain one foot in the world of black metal and one foot in the mundanity of existence, which is a responsibility they take seriously. Witch Taint wants fans to fully embrace their love for the genre because they believe people should live a black metal lifestyle instead of merely being fans, and they provide the perfect soundtrack for conversion with their debut album, Sons of Midwestern Darkness (out April 10 through Tee Pee Records).

One spin of album’s lead single, “Sons of Satan,” makes that message clear. The band commits themselves to the pursuit and celebration of the dark arts each day. Their schedules revolve around fucking shit up and breaking the ten commandments. Why? Because that’s what you do when you live a truly black metal lifestyle. It doesn’t matter if you’re a rockstar or an accountant for a law firm, there are always opportunities to create chaos, and Witch Taint are happy to show fans the way.

On this episode of Inside Music, host James Shotwell speaks to Witch Taint co-founder Lance The King of Black Metal about his group’s unique approach heaviness. The pair also explore the origins of Witch Taint and why it took sixteen years for the band to release their first album.
