James Rhodes is the Vice President of independent record label FiXT, an artist-owned label which he co-founded in 2006 alongside respected artist, producer, and composer Klayton, best known for his solo projects Celldweller, Scandroid, Circle of Dust, and FreqGen. Building the company around the strength of Klayton’s projects, James and Klayton have turned FiXT into a global brand with dozens of artists and fans in over 130 countries.

Born in Toledo, Ohio and raised in Burlington, Iowa, James’ path to managing day-to-day operations at FIXT began as a fan of Klayton’s ’90s industrial project Circle of Dust. When Klayton started Celldweller in 1999 James joined his Street Team and met him for the first time in 2000 at a fan meet-and-greet opportunity in Detroit. James became an active member in the Celldweller fanbase and Street Team while pursuing a venture into music production by attending The Recording Workshop of Ohio in Fall 2003.

James explored interest in live show promotion with various shows in SouthEast Iowa in the early 2000s and booked one of Celldweller’s first-ever live shows in 2003 at the legendary Iowa City venue Gabe’s Oasis. Later in Fall 2003, James became Klayton’s first employee, taking over Celldweller’s online e-commerce operations.

By late 2004, James’ hard work caught the attention of Tyler Bacon, the President and owner of Los Angeles management, publishing and licensing company Position Music, who managed Klayton at the time and continues to represent him across publishing and licensing. James joined Position Music in 2005 as one of the company’s early full-time employees.

In 2006 James and his wife Rebecca moved back to Iowa to be closer to family as they began a family of their own. During the transition back to the Midwest, James and Klayton launched FiXT as the label vehicle for not only Celldweller, but to support other artists and provide a fair label deal in an industry known for lopsided agreements. Klayton’s prior experiences with record labels had left him wanting for a better experience and together James and Klayton set out to offer a label focused on treating artists like family.

Now, as FiXT celebrates its 15-year anniversary in 2021, the company has 2 label divisions, FiXT and FiXT Neon, focusing on electronic-rock and retro-inspired synth and indie-pop music, respectively. The label boasts over 2.5 billion lifetime streams with an active artist roster of 25 artists and over 1,000 Film/TV/Video Game synch placements. The label’s team consists of offices in Los Angeles, Denver, and Iowa, with over 20 employees, designers, writers, and publicists contributing from different corners of the world, including Chile, Ukraine, New Zealand, and more.

In 2020, James joined the American Association of Independent Music (A2IM) Mentor program and has begun a new journey of finding ways to use his experience to give back to the independent music community.


James Shotwell has spent his career in music finding new ways to connect people with the next song or artist to change their lives. Haulix LIVE! Presents A Rude Records 20th Anniversary Celebration on 1/21

Rude Records, one of the most influential labels of the 2000s, celebrates twenty years of success with a one-time Haulix LIVE! event on January 21.

Over the past two decades, Rude has helped talent from all walks of life reach a global audience of devoted music fans through hard work and innovative marketing that cannot be topped. Company Founder Ilich Rausa and General Manager Federico Croci will be chatting with host James Shotwell about the label’s past, present, and future. About the Rude Records Team:

Ilich Rausa began to be curious about the Music Industry during his early University years and his career was launched thanks to a position with one of the largest indoor venues in Milan, Italy. During this period, he learned about band and audience development, promotional and marketing strategies. He founded Rude Records with a friend, a sound engineer, at the end of 2000 and from that moment on, moved particularly by the passion of its founders, Rude Records started to take its first steps with the production and distribution of young alternative bands. Ilich focuses on label strategy and development and works with the team on the development of new partnerships, growth plans, and budgeting. Ilich also oversees operations, contracts, and human resources. Rude started representing some Labels from the US in Europe from 2004 and eventually started to sign international bands for EU, UK and North America. Rude Records counts now over 200 releases and has collaborators all over the world and works closely with bands from the US, UK, Australia. In 2020 Rude Records has signed a Publishing deal with The Orchard \ Sony ATV and renewed a global distribution deal with The Orchard \ Sony Music.  


Federico Croci‘s deep passion for music started when he first learned how to play an instrument. This led to discovering old classics hidden in his father’s vinyl collection and writing reviews and interviews for a music webzine. Federico is continually eager to know and discover new music, new artists, across all genres.

After graduating from University in Media Languages, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Music Industry. He joined Rude Records as PR and Marketing intern in 2011, actively participating in the Label’s development and strategic growth through the years.

Ten years after making the first steps in the music industry he’s now Rude’s General Manager and A&R, responsible for scouting new talents and assisting them throughout the whole creative process.

Watch A One-Hour Metal Marketing And PR Roundtable with Metal Blade and Prosthetic Records

Representatives from two of the biggest names in metal today appear in a one-hour Haulix LIVE! event to discuss what it means to succeed in the modern music business.

There is no point in history when succeeding in music was a simple task. Getting people to pay attention for three to five minutes at a time is one thing, but getting them to spend money and take a long-term interest in someone’s creative talent is something else. The tricks and plans that helped artists succeed ahead five years ago don’t work today, and what works right now probably won’t help anyone in 2023. That’s the nature of the beast known as the music business, but somehow, people still find ways to win fans and develop careers.

On Thursday, November 12, two of the most widely recognized music professional in metal today appeared on Haulix LIVE! to discuss their careers and the many ways to define success in entertainment. Becky Laverty (Prosthetic Records) and Vince Edwards (Metal Blade) spoke about music publicity and marketing in the COVID era, emerging trends in their field, and their hopes for 2021. Viewers also had the chance to ask questions.

About our panelists:

Becky Laverty has been a freelance publicist for 13 years, working for labels, events, and independent artists. Believing that each project is unique, she has forged relationships across the music industry and around the globe to deliver creative and engaging press campaigns. Although she still squeezes in the occasional side project, the majority of her time is now taken up by Roadburn Festival (Press & Communications) and Prosthetic Records (European Label Manager). 


Vince Edwards has worked at Metal Blade Records since 2007 after graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a BS in business administration. Fans may have seen his work on YouTube in the form of music videos for Anaal Nathrakh, The Black Dahlia Murder, Amon Amarth, and more. Additionally, Vince works with radio stations & shows such as SirusXM Liquid Metal, Full Metal Jackie, WJJO Overdrive, Music Choice, and dozens more to try and keep metal on the airwaves across the US. Fans may also have seen his graphic design work across the Metal Blade social pages and beyond. Metal Blade Records is an independent record label where staff wear many hats and work with bands on a daily basis to help bring their vision to fans globally. 


About our host:

James Shotwell is the Director of Customer Engagement for Haulix. His music career began with the opening of a music venue when he was just 14 years old. From there, James cut his teeth booking and promoting events until he enrolled at Ferris State University to pursue a degree in Music Industry Management. From there, James found a passion for writing that led him to work with some of the biggest publications in music. He later graduated from school and moved to Boston, where he worked for a music startup before starting with Haulix. In addition to his current role, James currently hosts the Inside Music Podcast, the High Notes podcast, the Music Biz channel on YouTube, and regularly contributes to multiple entertainment publications.

Hailing from the great state of New Jersey, Chris Hodge has spent over a decade working in both Artist Management and Tour Management. After time well spent touring the world and learning from some incredible colleagues, he created Bronson Ltd. a little over a year ago with a mission to continue to grow and build both a passionate and successful artist and management team. Trying to learn every day while not forgetting where he came from.


Kevin Garcia has been involved in the Music Industry since he started playing and promoting shows in his local scene at the age of 15. After 10 years of touring, fulfilling both performing and tour management duties, he found a strong passion for developing artist careers. Kevin began to transition into day-to-day Artist Management and brought his roster to the Bronson Ltd. family in 2019.


After years playing in local bands, Jesse Lebhar got his real start putting on shows in the Tampa Bay Area, as well as booking tours and tour managing for his friends’ bands. He started pursing a career in the music industry earnestly in late 2016, working his way up from tour manager, day-today manager, co-manager, and now working as a full-time manager. Jesse has a passion for project management, research, and data analytics, all of which he utilizes in supporting his artist’s career development.

Watch SRO PR Celebrate 25 Years of Music Publicity Success on Haulix LIVE!

Publicity involves a lot more than press releases and dinners with clients. Today’s publicists are networking and media-generating machines that work tirelessly to ensure their clients stand out from the endless sea of competition in their field. Of those doing that work well, SRO PR has a long history of leading the PR industry with a client-centric approach that customizes every campaign to meet the artist or group’s needs.

In October 2020, three SRO PR team members celebrated the company’s 25th anniversary with a one-hour panel discussion hosted by James Shotwell as part of the Haulix LIVE! digital panel series. The discussion touched on the team’s legacy in music and their thoughts on the challenges 2020 dealt to the entertainment business. In the mid to late ‘70s in his native Bronx, New York, Mitch Schneider was a freelance journalist for Rolling Stone, Crawdaddy, Circus, Hit Parader and Good Times, the latter of which he also edited. He moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to become a music publicist for the entertainment PR firm, Solters/Roskin/Friedman. In 1982 he left the company to return to freelance writing; his work appeared in LA Weekly and BAM, plus The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll. He subsequently joined Michael Levine Public Relations in 1983, becoming a partner in 1988 when the company became known as Levine/Schneider PR. In 1995, Schneider formed The Mitch Schneider Organization (MSO), an acclaimed PR company. In 2020, the company became known as the Schneider Rondan Organization (SRO) to reflect the new partnership with Marcee Rondan, a longtime associate who was EVP of MSO. With offices in Los Angeles, Nashville and Las Vegas, SRO handles music, culture and lifestyle projects with an artist roster encompassing the genres of rock, country, Americana and pop. Dayna has also produced an award winning horror film, several music videos and is in pre-production on her next feature film project. Most recently Dayna joined the Board of Advisors for Immersia Labs, venturing into the Cannabis/Tech space. 

Her energy is contagious, her ideas are boundless and she never stops pushing herself while supporting and encouraging all of those around her. 


New York City-based publicist, Kirsten Horner, emerged into the world of beauty after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology and getting her start in PR at BPCM where she assisted on a number of beauty brands. In 2017, Kirsten pivoted her focus and transitioned to the music and entertainment industry, where he true passions lie. Over the past few years, she has spearheaded press campaigns for acts such as Spanish Love Songs, Violent Soho, Rotting Out, The Stolen, as well as events such as the brand new 320 Festival, the Los Angeles Coffee Festival, the Vinho Verde Wine Experience, and more. 


Southern California native, Natalie Schaffer, got her start working for Hopeless Records right out of college where she focused on marketing, social media and in house PR for the label and bands on their roster. Now at almost 7 years with Big Picture Media, she continues to work with Hopeless Records daily, as well as working with labels such as Pure Noise Records, SideOneDummy Records, Equal Vision Records, Tooth & Nail Records, No Sleep Records and much more. Aside from music, she’s successfully spearheaded press campaigns for the 2019 San Francisco Coffee Festival, the re-release of John Carpenter’s Halloween and Wayne’s World into theaters to celebrate milestone anniversaries, the hilarious, satire site The Hard Times and so much more. She’s gotten to work with her absolute favorite bands and for that she is incredibly thankful.
