Haulix Weekly Update #55: What To Do In Denver When Your Internet Sucks

Hello, everyone! We know we are a couple days behind on getting this update to you, but please do not feel as if you have been forgotten. James, the guy who runs this blog, has been on vacation in Denver and his hotel’s wifi proved less powerful than advertised. He sought a better connection, and we are now able to share our long-awaited weekly recap with all of you.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

That introduction may have lead you to believe the delays were perhaps due, at least in part, to new advancements on the development front. While it is true that we have some major changes in the pipeline, they are not quite ready for the public just. I want to say that we will have something to share by the end of the Month, but considering the fact that date is a little over a week away I’m not sure it will happen. October however, will be insane.

On the blog end of things, the second to last week of September proved incredibly busy. Prior to leaving for Denver, James logged 4 new interview, secured a half dozen features, and did a ton of press outreach. We know you probably do not care all that much about how our publicity efforts are going, but we are working to further our brand recognition through things like the blog and the recently launched podcast.

In case you missed anything this week, here is a roundup of our latest content offerings:

Journalism Tips #28: Something To Consider Before Firing An Unpaid Contributor

That’s all we have for this week. We’ll be back later today with a brand new job board.

Haulix Weekly Update #48: If Loving Bob Seger Is Wrong Then I Don’t Want To Be Right

I’ve lost count of how many new tracks come our way every week, but I know it’s a number that seems to grow exponentially larger by the month. In the midst of all that, isn’t it funny how sometimes it’s the songs we haven’t heard in years that get us through the day? For me, today, that song is “Night Moves.” Yes, the one by Bob Seger. Don’t laugh. This song was solid gold the day it was created, and it remains that way to this very day. Don’t believe me? Allow the music to defend itself:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

After several weeks of constant reveals, we have no big breakthroughs to report from our development team. Instead, we have spent the past several days refining our already proven tools and plotting the next steps towards complete industry domination (kidding). We also upgraded our watermarking technology, which you can read about in a blog post we ran on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking of the blog, there has been a lot going on behind-the-scenes of this little Tumblr page. We have moved beyond August and began plotting our efforts in September. We also upgraded our podcasting equipment, so the next time you hear ‘Inside Music’ the quality will be far beyond what was on display during our debut.

Haulix Weekly Update #42 – “It’s Almost Here!”

“The only reason why we ask other people how their weekend was is so we can tell them about our own weekend.” – Chuck Palahniuk

Hello and welcome to the very last blog post of the work week! If you are joining us on the afternoon this post goes live then you are no doubt glancing back and forth between this page and the clock in the upper right hand corner of your computer screen. That’s okay, some of us are probably doing it too. The weekend is right around the corner and you probably have plans. Are they awesome? I bet they are! Feel free to tell us about them in the comments below.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

NEXT WEEK IS THE WEEK WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR!

After more than a month of promotion we will finally be able to unveil our highly-anticipated and automated DMCA takedown service. This completely optional service will help clients by scrawling through the internet, recognizing leaks, tracking sources, and automatically issuing DMCA takedown notices for the remainder of the client’s membership with Haulix. We hope to push everything live on Monday, but it may take a few extra days to get things just the way we want them. Keep an eye on this page for additional updates.

Speaking of new things, you may have caught this in yesterday’s post, but we will soon be launching our first-ever podcast! We are lining up guests now and hope to have the first post live within the next week or two. We are going to keep our guest list under wraps for now, but if you would like to appear feel free to email james@haulix.com.

On the blog end of things, we used this week to reintroduce our readers to our Artist Spotlight series, while also making time for a wealth of new Advice articles. In the weeks ahead we have a very special announcement regarding our lawyer friend, as well as guests from No Sleep Records, Tiny Engines, and more. You can find a link to every article we have featured in recent days below:

That’s all we have on the update front this week. Before I let you go, however, I want to present a challenge. While reading about Elton John this week I learned his mother made it a point to always buy a new record every Friday. I know not everyone has the financial means to buy an album a week, but I would like to see everyone make a conscious effort to regularly buy music – even just a single – at least a couple of times every month.

Okay, that’s really all we have for now. Have a great weekend!

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We typically start these posts with updates from the development side of things, but this week is unique because we’re ending things with a handful of projects in various states of update that we’re currently unable to write about at length. We want to, we really do, but we need just a few more days to get everything in order. Next week, however, all will be revealed.

On the blog end of things, the final week of May was spent prepping for the start of what we have been calling ‘year 2.’ We have enjoyed creating content over the last year and will certainly continue to update the blog regularly, but we have a wealth of new ideas rolling out as well that we believe you are going to love. Podcasts, anyone? How about videos? The next few months are going to get very interesting.

Haulix Weekly Update #40: “Oh, How Time Flies!”

“I have never in my life found myself in a situation where I’ve stopped work and said, ‘Thank God it’s Friday.’ But weekends are special even if your schedule is all over the place. Something tells you the weekend has arrived and you can indulge yourself a bit.” – Helen Mirren

Hello and welcome to the final Haulix update of the work week. Whether you relate to The Queen’s feelings about Fiday or not, there is something universally true about the wonderful sense of allowed indulgence the weekend presents. Consider this particularly weekend includes a holiday in the states, the above quote could not be more fitting than it is right now. We are just hours away from the five o’clock hour while crafting this post and we thank you for taking a few minutes from your avoidance of afternoon labor to spend with us.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

REMINDER: We will be performing general patch updates in all of our servers this Saturday, May 24, from12:00PM to 4:00PM CST. There will be some minor downtime during the process and services will be unavailable.

If you have any questions, please contact us at support@haulix.zendesk.com.

Another work week is finally coming to a close, and as always our team is hard work on the future of anti-piracy efforts. Our testing for Toppletrack integration continues, with plans already being set for the evolutionary steps that will follow. We feel confident that the year ahead will see some of the biggest and best updates in our history, and we look forward to working with all of you to further develop the future of this industry we all love.

Speaking of years, next week marks the one year anniversary of this blog’s birth. When we started we had only a few ideas on how to engage the industry, and now that we’ve logged more than 250 updates we feel like we have a much better understanding of the business we exist within. More importantly, we like to believe we have also made a difference in the lives of readers through our interviews, advice, and job board postings. We have a lot of ideas for the future that will see expanding our messaging beyond this blog, but we will always make it a point to create content for this outlet as well. The columns you love will continue and new features will be presented. This blog exists to help you as much as it does to aide us in promoting our platform, and we want your assistance in planning its future content. We say this a lot, but if you have any questions about the content of a post, or if you have an idea for a future column, please email james@haulix.com and share your thoughts. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

Haulix Weekly Update #39 – “We’re Going To Need A Bigger Boat”

“I understand what’s it like to work all week and on Friday night just want to go and leave your brain at the door, buy some popcorn and be thrilled by something.” – Don Cheadle

Hello and welcome to the final Haulix blog update of the work week. If you’re reading this post the day it goes then you’re likely joining us in the unsettling anticipation of the weekend ahead. It is Godzilla week, after all, and thanks to an early screening this week we already know it’s awesome. Before you run off to the cineplex however, we need to take a few moments and reflect on everything we’ve accomplished in recent days.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you. If you have any questions about the content of this post, or if you are interested in learning more about the secure music distribution services offered by Haulix, please email james@haulix.com and share your thoughts. What we can tell you today is that things are moving forward, and we recently launched beta testing for this highly teased offering. Once live we will be able to assist clients in battling piracy more fiercely than ever before. More details soon.

On the blog end of things, we continued our efforts to create better and more informed industry this week through multiple new posts. We interviewed industry big shots, talked about the need to remember where we come from, and offered a boat load of advice to beginners. Haulix Weekly Update #38 – “Lana Del Rey Is The Soundtrack To Our Day”

Hello, everyone. If you are reading this post the day it goes live then you are no doubt trying your hardest to look busy while slacking off in the final hours before the weekend arrives. That’s fine with us, but if you get caught just don’t go pointing the finger in our direction. Should you get fired however, we do have a job board ready and waiting to help you find a new career in music.

We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

This week’s biggest announcement is really only a pre-cursor to what we hope will be a much larger unveiling in the near future. As many of you already know, we have spent the past several weeks prepping a new tool that will automate the process of issuing DMCA Takedown Notices to blogs and other sites illegally sharing music serviced through Haulix. This week we completed the initial setup stages and we will soon commence testing. As soon as we make sure everything is fully functional we’ll roll the completed product out to you, our clients.

On the blog end of things, we first want to give a special thanks to everyone who reached out to editor James and asked about his health. He is not quite back to normal, but definitely on his way to being his typical overworked self in no time at all. He worked on over a dozen new interviews this week, as well as several new features. The biggest of those, our upcoming ‘Ask A Lawyer’ segment, will debut at the beginning of June.

If you missed any post this week then you should probably take a few minutes and catch up with our content using the links below. We are usually pretty proud of the work we do, but the past few days have felt a little extra special. Click around and see if you agree:

That is all we have for this afternoon. We will return tomorrow with an all-new Journalism Tips segment, so please check our Twitter for update. Have a great weekend, everyone!

As soon as everything is checked for quality and reliability we will deliver the goods to you. Who knows, we might even throw in a freebie or two.

There is not a lot to report on the blog front today. Interviews and article development continues, but right now editor James Shotwell is at home recovering from a bit of illness.  He’ll be back into the swing of things in time for ‘Journalism Tips’ tomorrow, but for now he has nothing to share. Our development team is working out the few remaining issues with our mobile platform, and in the coming weeks we should be able to share additional information about its upcoming launch. No major issues or errors came up with the product this week, but we are continuing to refine our distribution tools each and every day.

On the blog ends of things, our efforts have been continuing in spite of the fact most our fellow professionals have been on vacation. Some were kind enough to share part of their downtime with us and for that we are forever grateful. You can find a roundup of the week’s content below:
