Haulix Weekly Recap #72 – “Cows Don’t Look Like Cows On Film.”

Hey there, everyone. It’s the end of yet another work week, which means it is time once more to recap our recent activity and tease what the future might hold. Before we get there, however, I wanted to introduced you to Thugli. They’re an incredibly production outfit, and earlier today they shared a Drake remix that is destined to be a highlight of your weekend. Check it out:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

Kicking things off with development updates, I have to be honest and say there is nothing major to report this week. Our dev team has patched a few minor bugs in recent days, but otherwise they have been hard at work on some longterm projects I’ve been asked not to discuss just yet. I will say, however, that we are evolving. The Haulix you have known and loved will always be here, but we’re currently working on rounding out our growing arsenal of anti-piracy tools in hopes of redefining digital security in 2015. I’ll tell you more when I’m allowed to do so.

Before we get to the blog updates, there is one company-wide promotion I need to tell you about. This April, just after the cold from winter has left your bones, the Haulix team will be hosting a panel at LAUNCH music conference in Lancaster, PA. There will be a ton of great guests, including nightly performances by some of the biggest bands in music today. It’s our first real conference appearance in over half a decade of existence, and we would be thrilled if you could make it out to join us. Here is a recently released poster revealing the first round of conference talent:

On the blog end of things, this week was a wild one. We ran this incredible podcast with Clinton Sparks, which over a 1000 of you already listened to (Thanks!), and I think the longform content really held its own. I also put five reviews in the can for future blog updates, but for the sake of promotion I’m not going to reveal their identities at this time. Sorry!

Haulix Weekly Update #71 – “Sit perfectly still. Only I may dance.”

Hey there, folks. Welcome to the end of the work week. It has been bitter cold outside HQ walls, so we’ve been working long hours to avoid facing the dropping temperatures, but even our team is ready to go home and relax. Before we get there, however, we need to reflect on the week we’re leaving behind. We also need to listen to music, like this recent hit from Blood And Ink Records artist Household:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

To start us off, I want to first say that we are hard at work on new development updates. I know it has been a few weeks since our last release, but we have used that time to reevaluate our platform and discuss what changes should be made in the months ahead. We also listened to you, our clients and friends, and the requests you have shared. All of this was poured over by our entire team and, in the end, several goals were set for 2015. We’ll have more on all that soon.

On the blog end of things, we picked up the pace just a bit this week by adding an additional feature highlighting the efforts of Semplice Lessons. We have been churning out six articles a week every week for about a year, so now it’s time to expand our efforts once more. If you missed anything in recent days, here’s a quick recap of our best new content:

Haulix Weekly Update #70 – “In This House, We Obey The Laws Of Thermodynamics!”

Hello, everyone! Welcome to the very first Haulix company update of 2015. We have had a bit of weird week with the holidays and all, but it will still quite productive around HQ. Before we get to all that however, we typically start these things with some music. Take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with the immense talent of Eden The Cat:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

This week has been a relatively quiet one as far as developments are concerned, but we did discuss a number of big ideas for the year ahead we think you will love. We have a lot of goals for 2015, and with your help we know we can craft a better, more versatile platform than anyone else is able to provide. We should have a few updates soon, but this week we simply don’t have anything far enough long to discuss it. Sorry.

On the blog end of things, we did not let the many parties we weren’t invited to on New Year’s Eve distract us from creating awesome content. We did not run an article a day, but we came close, and we’re incredibly proud of every piece of content we produced. In case you missed anything, here’s a quick review:

Haulix Weekly Update #69: “Television! Teacher! Mother! Secret Lover.”

Good afternoon, everyone! We hope the holidays have treated you well so far, and that wherever you find yourself now is somewhere both fun and relaxing. The music business never stops, but this time of year it does tend to slow just long enough for everyone to catch their breath. We do not advise taking this time for granted, and have prepared the following soundtrack to help you enjoy your remaining free time:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

This week has been a relatively quiet one as far as developments are concerned, but we did roll out the following updates at the tail end of last week:

Clients have always been able to send multiple promos in a single email. If it’s a one-promo email and the contact clicks the link, it goes directly to the promo screen — no passcode required. From there, if they click on Promos, it prompts for the passcode. If it’s a multi-promo email and they click the main link on the bottom of the email, it USED TO prompt for the passcode. We updated the system so that it passes them through — no passcode. They go to a screen that has all of the promos from the email. They can then click the one they are interested in, thus streamlining the process for everyone involved.

While our development side laid low this week, our blogging efforts continued as if it were any other work week. We released a new podcast, a great interview with one of our favorite clients, and an in-depth editorial on overcoming traffic slowdowns associated with the holidays that we take a lot of pride in. If you missed any of this, or the other content we recently ran, use this list of links below to catch up:

Music Industry Job Board (12/21/14)

That’s all we have for this week. We have interviews with Tantric and The Banner going live early next week, as well as a great photo feature that will help us say farewell to 2014 in style. Have a safe and adventurous weekend.

Best,

Haulix

Haulix Weekly Update #67 – “You Don’t Win Friends With Salad”

Hello, everyone! It is Friday once again, which means like many of you we are trying our hardest not to watch the clock tick away the final hours of the work week. Some of us do this by burying ourselves in work, while others try and get as far away from anything resembling a timepiece as possible. For me, it’s music that kills time, and this week nothing as consumed more of my free time than the awesome talent of Chela. Check out “Handful Of Gold” and feel the hours melt away:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

AN UPDATE ABOUT UPDATES

We have been releasing a series of minor platform updates throughout December, but this week our releases were kept to a minimum while our development team put in long hours toward completing a new email release we hope to have out early next week. This may very well be the last product update of 2014, and it will be released alongside a rundown of every major advancement made over the past twelve months. 2014 was a wild year for us, and we hope you will join us in celebrating everything we have accomplished.

On the blog end of things, a trip to the midwest kept editor James Shotwell’s ability to conduct and edit interviews to a minimum. Still, we put together a slew of great original columns, as well as a one of a kind podcast about the struggles of raising a child who wants to work in entertainment. We’re incredibly proud of this content, and we encourage you to experience it all. Here’s a quick rundown of everything produced in recent days:

Journalism Tips: Keep Going

Inside Music Podcast #11 – James Shotwell X

That’s all we have this week. Stop by in the days ahead for a new job boards, as well as interviews with The Banner and the founder of Pure Noise Records.

Haulix

Haulix Weekly Update #64 – Getting Back On Track

Hello, everyone! We are thrilled to learn that you were able to find time amidst your busy schedule to spend a few minutes with us. It’s Friday, which means it’s time to review everything we have accomplished in recent days. Before we get to that however, I wanted to take a few moments to introduce you to a fast-rising rock band we cannot get enough of around HQ. Ladies and gents, please take a listen to New Years Day:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We’ve been promising new product releases for the last two weeks, and it make us immensely happy to report we released not one, but two new updates to share. Neither one is necessary a reinvention of our system, but we do believe these changes will simplify our clients’ experience. Here’s a quick rundown:

Bandwidth Usage Alerts

The system will now send you an email alert when you hit 80% bandwidth usage for the month.

Bandwidth Usage Graphs

The bottom of your dashboard has a new function, “Show Promo Bandwidth”. Click the link and yellow bars will appear showing how much bandwidth has been used per the lifetime of each promo measured in gigabytes.

Plan Change Alerts

Anytime you upgrade, downgrade, hibernate or cancel your account, you will now receive a confirmation email.

We are tentatively planning a few additional updates before the end of 2014, but at this point we’re keeping all details associated with those efforts at a bare minimum.

On the blog end of things, you may have noticed a slight upswing in the amount of content created compared to a week ago. Our hearts are still very heavy from the loss of our close friend Justin, but life goes on and we are doing our best to push forward. The content created this week was largely dependent on help from a number of influential music writers, but we contributed quite a bit as well.

In case you missed anything in recent days, here’s a rundown of our newest content:

That’s all we have this week. Again, thank you so much for finding time to spend a little time with us. We love how this site has evolved up to this point, and to be perfectly honest we very anxious to see what happens next. For now, be sure to have a safe and fun weekend. We’ll be back on Sunday with a new Job Board.

Haulix Weekly Update #63: For Justin

Hello, everyone! It’s hard to believe the end of the work week is here already, but we certainly are not trying to complain about has fast the time has passed. We have been dealing with the loss of a close friend this week at HQ, and today we’d like to honor that person by sharing a track from one of their favorite bands. Justin, this one is for you:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

I hate to the be the one to say this, but after several weeks of constant development updates things were a little bit quiet this week. We have some big roll outs planned for the months ahead, but in order to reach a point where those efforts can be discussed our dev team needs to move a bit closer to completion. After all, what’s the point of announcing something you cannot immediately enjoy? We don’t want to keep you waiting for things promised. We want to deliver, and if you stick around another week or two I am confident we will have another big development update ready to reveal.

On the blog end of things, I’ll be the first to admit things were a little slow this week. We thought we had more time to spend with our dear friend, Justin, but when we learned he would soon be passing our minds ran far from the world of music education. Fortunately for us, and in a roundabout way you as well, a slew of talented industry vets stepped up to contribute content while we mourned. We missed one day, but the rest of the week was packed with great content. Here’s a list of everything you may have missed:

Haulix Weekly Update #61 – The November Chill Has Arrived

Good afternoon, everyone! If you’re reading this the day it goes live then there is a decent chance you’re doing your best to look busy while running out the last few hours of the work week. Don’t worry, we won’t say anything. The first week of November has been a crazy one, and we’re ready to settle into the weekend as much as you are, but first we need to spend a little time reflecting on all that has occurred.

We did not have any major development updates or releases this week, but we did manage to put together an in-depth guide to creating great looking promos using transparent backgrounds. Check it out:

Creating an eye catching design for your next promo is really easy. In this tutorial, I’m going to show you how to make a cool design utilizing our transparent background options.

I used Adobe Fireworks CS6 to create the background graphic.

1. Start out by finding a large image that will fill the screen. This can be anything you want, from an abstract design to a photo of the band them self.  Choose something large.  I started with an image that was over 3000 pixels wide.  I first opened the image in Fireworks and resized it to 2000 pixels wide. Make sure to click the lock icon to scale the height down as you decrease the width.

2. Click to “Fit the Canvas” after resizing.

3. If you were to use the background in your promo the way it is now, the text would be hard to read. The next step, is to add a block in the middle that will be slightly darker than the rest of the background. This will make the text pop.

4. Use the rectangle tool and drag out a rectangle that is 870 pixels wide. Drag it to the exact center of the background image. Use the eye-dropper tool and give the rectangle a fill color that is dark and something that matches the overall color scheme of the background image.  I chose a dark blue.

5. Give the rectangle an “Opacity” of 50% so that the background shows through.

6. Export your background image. Try to size it down as much as possible without losing quality and use .jpg as the type.

7. Sign into your Haulix account and click on Promos. With your promo selected in the left column, click on the “Design” button.

8. In the upper right Template Designer, select “New…” from the drop down list. Give the template a name and click Create.

9. Click to upload your new background image. Check all of the “Transparent” check boxes and un-check the background repeat check box. This will allow the background to peek through while anchoring it in the center of the screen.

10. Update the rest of the colors so that they pop. I used a white text for this design. Click the “Save” button once finished.

11. Click the “Preview” button and check out your promo.  You are done!

Developing our marketing content, as well as planning future features on this blog, took up a lot of our time this week. We conducted three interview, wrote five interviews, edited two podcasts, and planned at least half a dozen more interviews for the week ahead. On top of this, we also planned and edited guest features, in addition to creating original content ourselves. We are trying to make November a month that find our blog filled with diversity, and so far I think we’re pulling it off. Here’s everything that ran in recent days:

Haulix Weekly Update #59 – Promo Permissions For Administrators

The colorful leaves outside my office window are the only sign I need to know that fall is well underway. Before we know it, Christmas advertisements will start popping up, and not long after that snow will begin to fall. We are on top of a hill that offers a steep slide into the end of year and to be perfectly honest we’re excited to see what the remaining weeks of 2014 will offer. We have worked incredibly hard to improve Haulix this year, and as you will soon learn our efforts are far from finished. First, however, we want to share with you the music of Triple Crown Records’ rock outfit Tiny Moving Parts:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We have another big dev update!

A week has passed since our last update and we’re back with another update that gives you fine grained control over which promos your Administrators can see.

Starting today, Haulix clients can now create individual promo permissions for an Administrator Account. To set individual promo permissions for an Administrator Account:

1. Sign in and click the Tools Menu —-> My Account

2. Administrators (left side)

3. Click to Add a new account or “edit” to update an existing account

4. Checking the “Modify Promos” checkbox enables Promo access. Unchecking that checkbox will disable all Promo access.

5. Click Save.

6. With “Modify Promos” enabled, click the “set promo permissions” link.

7. A window will popup with a list of all of your promos. Uncheck the box next to all promos you want hidden from this Administrator. Click Save & Close.

8. When your Administrator signs in, all promo lists will get filtered to only show promos you have given them permission to view.

The following screens will have filtered promo lists:
– Dashboard promo consumption
– Left column of the Promos screen
– Report’s promo selection list
– All anti-piracy takedown screens

**When you create a new promo and you are concerned about Administrator access, re-visit this screen right away and enable/disable access accordingly.**

I wish I could say that the blog had a week as exciting as the production team, but that is not the case. We have been working hard, writing and recording, but overall it was a week like any other. We did decide to take a break from our podcast, but another new episode will be available by the end of next week.

In case you missed anything this week, here is a rundown of our latest content offerings:

Haulix Weekly Update #57: The Temperature Is Dropping Like Bass In A Nu-Metal Song

Fall has officially gripped New England, and as far as I can tell the temperature will not be climbing again for quite some time. I don’t know about you, but for me it’s always the fall and winter when my love for heavy music is at its peak, and already this season I’ve stumbled across several promising young acts with talent to spare. We don’t have time to highlight everyone here on the blog, but you should definitely make time to discover the creative minds behind Vanities:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

The past seven days at Haulix HQ have been extremely busy. Our development team has been inching closer to completing our redesigned promo creation screens, and to be perfectly honest we are pretty excited to show you what we have in store. I asked HQ if we could share a few images, but right now we are going to keep everything under wraps until we are absolutely sure everything looks and works the way we planned. Next week there may be more to share on the development front, but right now it’s all too secretive to warrant further blog discussion.

The blog has been keeping busy as well, scheduling and conducting interviews every single day of the past week. We ran two new episode of the podcast, 3 advice columns, and one killer Artist Spotlight feature that helped us further expand our punk-related offerings. You can view a list of links directing you our recent content below:
