6 Reasons To Trust Haulix With Your Next Release

Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for taking a some time out of your day to spend with us. We try our hardest not to take too much time away from our educational efforts for self-promotion, but when considering the updates and developments that have taken place in recent months we thought it might be a good time to remind the world why we’re so good at what we do.

This blog exists to promote the future of the music industry, and to do that we need input from people like you and your music-loving friends. If you have any questions about the content in this article, or if you have an artist you would like to see featured on this blog, please contact james@haulix.com and share your thoughts. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

The music industry has changed a lot over the last fifteen years, and that evolution has largely been guided by technology. When Napster went live, everything we knew about the business and how it functioned up to that point was no longer relevant. A new age had dawned, and it was on those in power to react – fast. We could go on and on about things that should or should not have happened at that point in time, but the hard truth is that almost fifteen years later we are still trying to find solutions for the problems that plagued us just after Y2K fears began to subside. There is no end to digital piracy in sight, but we wholeheartedly believe that through Haulix record labels and independent artists alike have a fighting chance against music pirates. Here’s why:

SECURITY

First and foremost, Haulix offers one of, if not the most secure platform for digital distribution available today. Through a combination of advanced watermarking technology, permissions, encryption, and secure traffic techniques we are able securely host, distribute, and track your media while you focus on promoting the material itself.

What is a watermark? Good question. Watermarks contain user specific information that allows us to identify which contact specifically downloaded or streamed a file through Haulix. On average, each track will contain 15-20 watermarks which can survive most attacks such as re-encoding and conversion. Additionally, you have fine grained control over how many times they can stream or download a promo. All traffic in and out of Haulix is SSL encrypted (like bank websites). Haulix automatically prepares your tracks for watermarking and when a contact downloads or streams an album, the injection process is performed in seconds.

AUTOMATED PIRACY/LEAK TAKEDOWNS

This feature only launched in the last couple months, but it has quickly become one of our most popular tools in the battle against leaks. Our ‘Piracy Takedown’ tool, when activated, crawls the web seeking unwanted files and links to files featuring watermarked content from Haulix clients. When that content is located, our system automatically distributes takedown notices and tracks the results so clients will know when their content copyrighted has been taken down.

This process does not happen once or twice, but repeatedly for as long as a client is a member of Haulix. For more information on this tool and how it can help your efforts to battle leaks, click here.

CUSTOMIZATION

There are more bands, labels, and pr outlets in existence today than ever before, which means the amount of pitches and messaging being thrown at writers is also at an all-time high. Haulix recognizes this, and through our state of the art messaging system we have created tools that allow our clients to present their upcoming release(s) however they see fit. We love to focus on the backend of things so that publicists, labels, and bands can put their efforts into promotion. We know that in order to do that to the best of their abilities our clients need to be in control of how their content is no only dispersed, but presented. From the “promo” pages where your music securely lives online, to the email you will send when inviting press to experience your material, there are dozens of ways our product can be customized to fit your needs. Want to use a color theme or still image as the background to your “promo” page and/or emails? No problem! Want to limit the number of times an album can be streamed or downloaded by any particular individual? We can do that too.

ORGANIZATION & ANALYTICS

Expanding on an aspect of our service mentioned in the previous points, Haulix also helps distribute content. Through our one-of-a-kind email system our clients are able to create contact lists ( or upload their existing contacts), organize them into groups however they see fit, send personalized messages, and access analytics on their contacts engagement with various promos with ease. You’ll know who read your message, which ones accessed the material, and how they engaged with it once on the promo page. We also track downloads.

JOURNALIST APPROVED

All of these tools would mean nothing if journalists did not like our product. After all, at the end of the day it is the writers who are on Haulix the most, and it is through Haulix that writers engage with unreleased music. If their user experience was bad it could have a negative impact on their view of the record. Worse, it could impact how they view a particular label/pr firm as a whole.

Haulix has been receiving the praise of journalists worldwide since launching in the mid-2000s. We listen to their opinions on everything from our site design to the functionality of our product and work with them to better our efforts over time. We don’t want to pat ourselves on the back too much, so I’ll let the writers who engage with Haulix on a regular basis speak for themselves:

“I’ve been using Haulix for the past three years and most of the websites that I have written for use Haulix too. It is efficient and of course, highly recommended.” – Lav NandlallHeavy Metal Duchess

"I always get a little extra excited when I see I have new music through Haulix because I know I can jam it in mere seconds with no hassles.” – Jameson Ketchum, Substream Music Press

“I’ve been using Haulix for the past 3 years and a half and that’s still where I enjoy receiving promo music. Aside from the fact that I can download my music on it, it keeps things organized by expeditor, due dates are visible and it’s all simple and clear.” – Mariam Bouabid (Plug-In)

“Haulix takes all of the hassle out of receiving new music. It simply combines everything on one page and provides you with promo pictures, bios, videos and whatever else. Since most of the publicists we work with tend to use it, it’s nice to be able to quick switch back to your full catalog of promos you’ve received.” – Drew Maroon, MindEqualBlown.net

“I prefer a watermarked (to keep be accountable of course) zip download with high quality mp3s. Now I don’t always get that, so I roll with what I get. Haulix is cool because you can download and stream and it has the capability of supplying high quality stuff if the label/PR people provide it.” – Drew Beringer, Absolutepunk.net

“I want tracks I can stream, and preferably download too — I’m a New Yorker and do a lot of my listening on the subway, where streaming isn’t an option. Haulix is straightforward and intuitive.” – Jesse Richman, PropertyOfZack.com

INDUSTRY APPROVED

Journalists are not the only ones who enjoy Haulix. Many of our clients have been with us for years, and they are not shy about sharing their satisfaction with our product:

“We have always been looking for a great place to allow us to share our music with those that need it early, but in a safe way. Haulix was that answer for us, and we will be lifelong customers of theirs.” – Chris Hansen, No Sleep Records

"I love the security aspect as well as the ability to truly track what people are doing with the promos. It takes the guessing game out of, “…well I spent a bunch of money to send a ton of packages out that I hope made it to their final destination… and I’m hoping these folks answer their emails and phone calls when I reach out to check on the packages.” You can see what’s going on, you can reference whether someone got their email, opened it, even listened to it or downloaded it, etc. And my favorite – the ability to create reports to follow up with people based on what they’ve done with the promo.” – Natalie Cammillo, Adrenaline PR

"Leaks aren’t 100% preventable but there are ways to insuring you stop leaks from coming from you. I’m a big user and supporter of Hauled. 90% of the writing world is familiar with Haulix and how it’s watermarked with each writer’s info. So that’s a good preventative.” – Rey Roldan, Another Reybee Production

Haulix Weekly Update #50 – You Are Now Entering A No Flex Zone

“I have never in my life found myself in a situation where I’ve stopped work and said, ‘Thank God it’s Friday.’ But weekends are special even if your schedule is all over the place. Something tells you the weekend has arrived and you can indulge yourself a bit.” – Helen Mirren

I don’t know about your way of living, but I never question the words of a woman who once portrayed The Queen. Friday is here, and that means it’s time to let go of the week’s frustrations and embrace the freedom the weekend represents.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

Starting with the development side of things, we are currently taking steps to add a sixth media server to our platform. Our growth in 2014 has been overwhelming in the best possible way, so we’ve dedicated the last several weeks to refining our platform and planning for additional growth in the future. We’re ready for whatever the world brings our way, and in the months to come that will likely include a few additional development updates that I’ve been told I’m not allowed to share with the public just yet. Trust me, it’s coming.

On the blog side of the company, the past several days have been littered with brainstorming sessions for future advice columns and over a dozen interviews. We know the past few weeks have been heavy with editorials, but in the months to come there will be a very large resurgence of Spotlight columns. We’re also bringing back our podcast, only this time with the kind of studio-quality audio you expect from such broadcasts.

I know how busy the week was for us, so I can only imagine the type of work all of you had to complete before reaching this point. In case you missed any content we ran in recent days, use the links below to catch up:

Haulix Weekly Update #48: If Loving Bob Seger Is Wrong Then I Don’t Want To Be Right

I’ve lost count of how many new tracks come our way every week, but I know it’s a number that seems to grow exponentially larger by the month. In the midst of all that, isn’t it funny how sometimes it’s the songs we haven’t heard in years that get us through the day? For me, today, that song is “Night Moves.” Yes, the one by Bob Seger. Don’t laugh. This song was solid gold the day it was created, and it remains that way to this very day. Don’t believe me? Allow the music to defend itself:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

After several weeks of constant reveals, we have no big breakthroughs to report from our development team. Instead, we have spent the past several days refining our already proven tools and plotting the next steps towards complete industry domination (kidding). We also upgraded our watermarking technology, which you can read about in a blog post we ran on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking of the blog, there has been a lot going on behind-the-scenes of this little Tumblr page. We have moved beyond August and began plotting our efforts in September. We also upgraded our podcasting equipment, so the next time you hear ‘Inside Music’ the quality will be far beyond what was on display during our debut.

Haulix Weekly Update #47 – ‘Up there! In the sky! It’s…It’s…A new development!’

I don’t know about you, but I woke this morning with a small spring in my step. The day greeted me with a cool breeze and plenty of sunshine, but something inside me told me the pleasant weather was not the source of my joy. I hopped in the showed and applying shampoo when it hit me: IT IS FRIDAY.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

The past week has been pretty crazy around headquarters. We continued to promote our latest promotional video, as well as the recently unveiled profile system, but the task that took up the vast majority of our time was a new update we’re just about ready to share. Yes, the rumors no one started are completely true, Haulix has another big update coming in just a matter of days and we cannot wait to share the details with all of you. For now, however, we will simply tease the fact that this update deals with something that lies at the core of everything we do here at Haulix. Without it, our company would likely not have survived as long as it has, and with this latest update we hope to secure our position in the industry for many years still to come.

On the blog end of things, life has been passing us by at 200 miles per minute. I believe we have worked on more than two dozen new features this week, including eleven interviews with various industry professionals. We plan to run all of that content before the end of August, so you know there are a few crazy weeks ahead. Before we get there, however, we should reflect on the 10,000 words published in recent days. Here is a list of everything you may have missed while working away your week:

INTRODUCING: Haulix Profiles

Hello again, everyone! We usually save our big company updates for the weekend, but given the size of this new feature we thought it best to give our latest expansion a post all its own. If you read our weekly recap last week you may already know what we’re about to discuss, but this explanation will be slightly more in-depth than before. If you have any questions about the content in this article, or if you have an artist you would like to see featured on this blog, please contact james@haulix.com and share your thoughts. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

One of the biggest concerns we have had in recent months when speaking with clients about their Haulix experience has been the fear of having their press contact information expire or otherwise become useless. You can only set aside so much time to update and reaffirm the information on your contact list, and as the the number of journalists you’re trying to reach grows it becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

We recognize the need for up to date information and easy database management, which is why we have created a new, state-of-the-art profile system that not only allows members of the press to see what labels have them listed as a contact, but also gives them the power to control what email addresses they are contacted at and who can contact them. When a member of the press changes their information that data is then updated on the contact page for every label that has that person listed as a contact.

To access the Profile screen, you must first access a Haulix promo. Once on that page, click the ‘Promos’ button at the top of the screen.

Next, enter your 4-digit code. If you do not have one, or if you think you may have forgotten yours, click the help button located below ‘Submit’ and you will be sent instructions on how to reset this part of your Haulix experience.

On the ‘Promos’ screen, click the ‘Profile’ button in the top left corner of the page. There may be red lettering that says ‘NEW’ next to the button.

Welcome to the ‘Profile’ page! Here you can reset your 4-digit passcode, verify alternate emails, and view a complete list of every label that has named you as a contact. All verifications require email confirmation, but those confirmation emails are sent immediately after each request is made. Unsubscribing, however, is immediate. [Emails omitted for privacy]

As I mentioned above, as soon as this information is verified your contact information will be updated in the database of every label and PR firm that has you listed as contact. It’s of the utmost importance that you double check the information on this screen before confirming it to be accurate. If anything is misspelled you may see an almost immediate change in the frequency of promos being sent your way.

We are always on the lookout for new ways to improve our platform and better your user experience. If you have questions about the profile system, or if you have suggestions on how further improve Haulix in the future, please do not hesitate to email james@haulix.com and share your thoughts.

Haulix Weekly Update #41 – “You Listen To The 1975 More Than My Sister”

Weekends don’t count unless you spend them doing something completely pointless.” – Bill Watterson (Creator of Calvin & Hobbes)

Hello, everyone. Thank you for joining us. If you are reading this article on the day it goes live then you are no doubt counting down the minutes until your weekend arrives. For what it’s worth, we appreciate you killing time by browsing our blog. Hopefully it helps the time pass.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We typically start these posts with updates from the development side of things, but this week is unique because we’re ending things with a handful of projects in various states of update that we’re currently unable to write about at length. We want to, we really do, but we need just a few more days to get everything in order. Next week, however, all will be revealed.

On the blog end of things, the final week of May was spent prepping for the start of what we have been calling ‘year 2.’ We have enjoyed creating content over the last year and will certainly continue to update the blog regularly, but we have a wealth of new ideas rolling out as well that we believe you are going to love. Podcasts, anyone? How about videos? The next few months are going to get very interesting.

Haulix Weekly Update #36 – “I Need The Smell Of Summer, I Need Its Noises In My Ears”

Hello again! If you’re reading this on the day it goes live then you already know we are just a few short hours from the start of the last weekend in April. We have been trying our best to work hard throughout the afternoon, but every time we look out the window and see Spring finally starting to show itself we have to fight the urge to break a window and run to the nearest park. You’ve been there, right?

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you. If you have any questions about the content of this post, or if you are interested in learning more about the secure music distribution services offered by Haulix, please email james@haulix.com and share your thoughts. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

This week at Haulix HQ we spent a lot of our time focusing on the upcoming launch of our automated DMCA Takedown Notification system. It’s likely that we are still a couple weeks away from launch, but we are moving closer to going live with each passing day. We do not have specifics on pricing information just yet, but once live this tool will scan the net for clients’ files and automatically issue perfectly-worded DMCA Takedown Notices without you (the client) having to do anything at all.

Outside of DMCA Takedowns and our efforts to put piracy to an end, we also took a good chunk of the week to examine our current email efforts. Brainstorming has begun on how we can better serve our clients in this way, but plans for the future are nowhere near ready for public consumption. When the time comes we’ll let you know.

As far as the blog is concerned, the past seven days have without a doubt been our most active to date. We had a big discussion on photo pit etiquette, walked through the DMCA Takedown process, and waved goodbye to our ‘My Life As A Music Pirate’ series with a one of the world’s only interviews with a confirmed pirate. In case you missed anything, here is a full list of this week’s content:

Journalism Tips #11: ‘Considering The World Before Social Media’

In addition to creating these columns we also spent a lot of this week planning what we’re tentatively calling ‘Year 2.’ This blog turns one in June and we plan to roll out a variety of new content to help kick things off right.

Well, that is all we have to share for now. Make this weekend the best of 2014 so far, but please don’t do anything that puts you or the people around you in danger. It’s all fun and jokes until someone sets the house on fire, as they say.

Have a great day, everyone. We’ll be back tomorrow with an all-new ‘Journalism Tips.’

Haulix Weekly Update #34 – We Have Updates To Discuss

Greetings, everyone! If you are reading this post the day it goes live then you are already well aware that it is Friday and the weekend is just a few seemingly unbearable hours away. We cannot make time move faster, nor do we have the technology to simply skip ahead, but if you give us a few moments of your time we can definitely provide enough entertainment to help pass the remaining time before freedom arrives.

Starting off with the development end of things, our team pushed a lot of odd projects to the side this week in an attempt to better our email systems for clients and press alike. We ended up releasing several new updates, each of which are detailed below:

  • Contact import now lists any updated contacts and/or those that error’d out.
  • If our system finds an email address in your list that isn’t formatted properly OR if an email bounces more than once and drops, we will highlight the contact in red in your list. You won’t be able to continue sending to that contact to protect your reputation.
  • You can delete all contacts who have unsubscribed with one click.  (Invitations ——-> Invitation Activity ——> Unsubscribes)

We’re continually improving our email engine to maximize deliverability while protecting our client’s reputation(s) as people who do not send out spam.

On the blog end of things, the first full week of April arrived with a renewed sense of determination. We worked on so many features this week we could probably stop brainstorming new idea until June, but part of the beauty in the chaos of this blog is throwing everything at a wall to see what sticks. We have artist features on the horizon, guests posts on everything from photography to publicity, and literally dozens of interviews in various states of completion. You may think we have done a decent job of presenting life on the inside of the music business, but you will soon learn that we have barely begun to scratch the surface.

In case you missed any of the content we ran in the last week, use the list below to catch up before a new ‘Journalism Tips’ debuts tomorrow afternoon:

That’s all we have for now. Have a safe and fantastic weekend away from work. If you need a new soundtrack, we recommend Sledding With Tigers.

Haulix Weekly Update #31 – Spring Has Sprung

Good afternoon, everyone! If you’re reading this the day it goes live, then please take a few moments to pat yourself on the back for reaching the end of yet another work week. If you’re reading this on any other day, go ahead and take the rest of the day off. We think you’ve earned it.

Every Friday we take a break from usually scheduled programming of informative and entertaining articles on life in the music industry to let you in on what we’re working on behind-the-scenes at Haulix. We love this blog, and it makes us so happy to know many of you visit frequently, but at the end of the day providing the most secure and easy-to-use digital distribution system in the world is still our focus. If you would like to learn more about our efforts to protect the future of the music business, click here.

This week was the first since the majority of the industry returned from SXSW, and to be perfectly honest it flew by in the blink of an eye. We had so many projects, phone calls, meetings, and related to-dos this week that we barely had the time to think about how many hours were left until the weekend arrived. Now it’s Friday and the only thing on our minds is whether or not we have done enough to warrant a little weekend fun. Funny how life works like that sometimes, am I right?

The biggest announcement from the dev side of things this week was the recent update to our email system. If you will recall from our post on Monday, every time a client sends new promotional invitations they will be able to view the recipient list for that invitation via their Dashboard. Simply click the linked number of recipients and a pop-up opens with a list of who the recipients were.

Here is an example:

This update is just one of many we have planned for the months ahead, but it’s the only one we are able to discuss at this time.

As for the blog, you might be interested to know we worked on more than 20 different articles this week. Between new ‘Advice’ columns, transcriptions on interviews, and conducting interviews for new pieces, there was rarely a dull moment in the editor’s office all week long.

We also ran A LOT of content. 9 articles since last Friday to be exact. If there is anything you missed, or if you simply want to revisit something from earlier in the week, use the list of links below to see what’s new:

That pretty much wraps up our work week coverage, but we will return tomorrow afternoon with the continuation of our ‘Journalism Tips’ mini-series on grammatical errors every writer needs to learn to avoid.

If this is your last time stopping by this week, please have a safe and wild weekend. We don’t expect you to send us stories, but we expect you to create memories worthy of being shared. For everyone else, we’ll see you tomorrow.
