The path to success begins with a single decision

This Monday feels like the first real Monday in 2017. Yesterday was not a major holiday, nor was the weekend filled with global celebrations. Yesterday was just another Sunday and today is just another Monday. There will be 50 more of them this year.

For many of you, this week will be the first proper week you live in the new year. Some are just returning to school and/or work, while others who have already returned to everyday life can expect a steady uptick in business as everyone else gets back into the swing of things.

As your schedule fills you are going to be tempted to continue living life the same way you have for as long as you can remember, but just doing the same thing over and over is never going to get you any closer to achieving your goals.

All paths to success begin with a single decision: Today will be different.

Today is the day you break from your old routine and begin working toward new, healthier and more productive daily habits that will help you reach the goals you’ve set for yourself.

Start simple. If you make just one change today that you can repeat tomorrow and every day thereafter then you have already taken a major step toward achieving your goals. A few examples:

  • Go to bed at a better time
  • Eat a healthy meal
  • Spend thirty minutes working on that project you keep telling yourself will soon be finished
  • Disconnect from screens and technology
  • Start something new
  • Read
  • Exercise

If you come up with something more suited to your individual goals, go for it. Just be careful to not overwhelm yourself. You cannot change your behavior all at once.

Once you can commit to doing just one thing differently on a regular basis you can set towards changing more aspects of your life. If you go too fast and demand too much from yourself there is a chance you will lose interest in trying to change altogether. Stay focused and take your time.

Never underestimate how easy it is to settle back into old habits.

Improving promotional distribution: Where we are & where we are going

You may have noticed a few changes around our blog as of late. We like it and we hope you do as well.

We talk about change a lot at Haulix. In a way, our existence is the result of change. Founder Matt Brown recognized a need for digital distribution that was both secure and cost effective and then developed a product to meet those needs. If you’re reading this now you may already know of it, but if not we offer a free 30-day trial.

Change is good. We believe the best way to stay ahead of our competitor is to always be working on something that improves upon our initial offering. We may be discussing update A right now with the public and possibly even teasing update B, but in our daily conversations it is updates C, D, and E that are all the rage.

Change is also hard. We spent most of the last two years developing a new version of our platform that we tried to launch last August only to realize almost immediately that the product was not yet complete. Our system was down for days and our customers, as well as their clients and the journalists they promote to, were upset. We were embarrassed.

But then something happened. We rolled back to a version of our service that we knew to be good and the negative feedback stopped. We accepted the blame for what happened and apologized to users over the phone, through email, and even on social media.

We talked to the people who use our system everyday and we listened to what they had to say. We asked how we could improve and we took notes. We began to think about the next steps.

Our initial desires were to retool and relaunch as soon as possible, but as we talked to more users we began to realize there was more we could do to improve. We also recognized our ability to make more updates to our current platform to meet what we felt were the most urgent and easy to deliver demands our users had.

Last month, every Haulix client received a boost in their storage and bandwidth. We also added a new pricing tier that makes it easier for smaller industry professionals to afford the most secure promotional distribution platform on the market. All three updates were the result of the conversations we had back in August, not to mention many more we have had since that time.

In the months ahead we hope to deliver additional updates to our current platform. We will also be fine tuning a new user and client experience that we hope to launch sometime much further down the line.

We want to introduce the updates our clients request as soon as they request them, but in order to deliver the highest quality product we can we have to take our time. Still, we are always looking for ways to further improve.

Over the next twelve months this blog will transform to better reflect our constantly changing outlook. We hope to post less industry news and focus more on the work it takes to not only survive, but thrive in this business. We will share our every success and failure, as well as what we learn from those experiences. Join us, won’t you?

Haulix Weekly Update #136: “Sit perfectly still. Only I may dance.”

Hello, everyone! We hope this update finds you staying cool during the height of summer heat. our ACs have been on overdrive, just like our development team. There are a lot of exciting reveals on the horizon for our team, and in this update we will give you a few hints about all we have in store. First, let’s all take a few minutes to relax and enjoy this great song:

As I mentioned above, each and every weekend we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

Development news:

We know what you’re thinking, “Is this another update about how the new version of Haulix is coming along, but still not ready for public consumption?” The answer is yes AND no. The platform is actually nearly complete at this point, but unfortunately we do have a bit more work to do before pushing this massive platform overhaul out to the general public. Our entire team has spent the last several days testing the new platform, and though it looks great there are several small hiccups to the UI that we are still trying to iron out. Our hope, and this is just a hope right now, is to have the entire platform ready for launch by next Friday. If that happens and we have the team available to push it live then we will launch that very day. If not, then we will take a few more days and make sure we got it right. 

We know some of you have started to grow impatient with our constant delays, but trust us when we say we feel the same. We want this platform out just as much, if not more than you do, and we are doing everything in our power to make that happen as soon as possible. 

Blog news: 

Though we have admittedly put our blogging efforts on the backburner while working to finish the new platform we did find time to push out several posts this week that we feel are quite important. Some of those articles focus on the responsibilities of journalists granted access to live events, the need to ignore hate born out of ignorance, and – of course – the continuation of our popular podcast, Inside Music. If you missed anything as of late, especially our podcasts, please head over to our archive and catch up ASAP.

YouTube Rights Management Specialist (Downtown Music Publishing – NYC) 

Job summary: Downtown Music Publishing is seeking a temporary YouTube Rights Management Specialist. This temporary role will primarily support our audiovisual content management efforts, specializing in the ingestion of our represented catalog into Content ID. Responsibilities will include editing, creating content, analyzing data and responding appropriately, and partnering with internal and external contacts to publish material that is interesting, entertaining, and relevant to the publication’s audience. The music editor is expected to contribute and edit weekly feature stories, curate work from freelancers and write at least three daily blog posts. The music editor also assists the editorial team with proofing pages and other production-oriented duties. Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.

Development news:

The long-teased Haulix platform update is so close. In fact, by the end of this month we will all be enjoying what we have dubbed ‘Project Falcon’ in full. We don’t want to give away the exact launch date just yet, but know it’s coming much sooner than you think.

Blog news:

Activity on the blog was up this week, but content creation is still taking a back seat to work on the new platform. We are quite proud of the material shared as of late, so please take a few moments to experience everything we have prepared for you. The month of February has been hectic so far, but each and every week we like to take a little time to sit back, reflect, and review everything that has transpired at HQ in the recent days. Development news:

We know we say this a lot, but you would not believe how cool the next version of Haulix will be. We understand that we tease the forthcoming update, currently codenamed ‘Falcon,’ a lot, but that is only because we find a new reason every single week to believe we are closer than ever from providing consumers with the perfect promotional distribution platform. From uploading and customization of promos, to the way journalists access our system and the quality of streams they’re able to access, we have made improvements big and small across the board. Functionality won’t change much, if at all, but the power offered to users will be greater than ever before.

As for a release date, it appears we are still not ready to drop that information just yet. When we are ready however, you will be the first to know.

Blog news:

With all the planning and work being put into the next phase of product development we have admittedly put our blog efforts on the back burner a bit. That said, we are still churning out 5-10 original columns every week, including our podcast (Inside Music). We may not be hitting the same quantity we did three months back, but we believe the quality of what we create is better now than ever before. Don’t believe us? So, remember when we asked you to help us make our dream of bringing a discussion on piracy to SXSW a reality? Well, WE DID IT! Haulix will be spearheading an industry discussion about the piracy, its ongoing impact, and the hope we have for the future. More details will be available soon.

Development News:

We don’t have any new information to share on the development front. As we work on this post our development is grinding away at what will become the new version of our platform. It’s cleaner, faster, easier to navigate, and complete with an overhauled set of analytics that offers more insight into how users engage with your promos than ever before. We hope to have the final version ready for release in November, but it may take a little bit longer to get everything just right. We really appreciate your patience.
