Haulix Weekly Update #76 – “Me fail English? That’s unpossible.”

Hey there, everyone. Welcome to our website. If you’re a regular visitor then you already know this week has been like any other. If you’re new, we’d like to thank you for giving us a shot. This post is meant to summarize our recent creative efforts, so it’s a bit different than the content we typically post. That said, there’s still a lot you can learn.

Each and every weekend we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We do not have any development updates to share this week, but we did want to pass along a reminder about last week’s big reveal.

‘Public Promo Groups’ is our latest release. Here’s how it works:

Promo groups are containers used for organizing your promos on various screens that you and your coworkers view.

Every one of your contacts has a “My Promos” screen where Haulix compiles all promos from all senders who sent an invitation to that contact.

You can now control how your promos are organized on that screen by making one or more of your promo groups “public.”

From your Promos screen, click on the Groups button.  Checking the Public checkbox will make the respective group appear on your contacts’ My Promos screens.

This feature is only a visual enhancement. All permissions that you previously established work the same way.

The promo order you establish in the group (drag n’ drop) on your Promos screen will get mirrored on the contact’s My Promos screen.

As for the blog, I think it’s safe to say this has been our slowest week to date. There is good reason however, and that is the launch of our ‘Haulix Live’ 2015 tour. Ferris State University welcomed staff member James Shotwell to their campus this week, and while he was on site James’ time online was extremely limited. He had a blast though, and the students he met were incredibly excited to discuss the state of our industry today. We’ll next be at Launch Conference in April, and we’re hoping to see more schools not long after that!

We did still manage to get some great content out this week, even if our quantity dipped. Here’s everything you missed:

17 Reasons You May Consider Firing Your Publicist

Inside Music Podcast #22 – Jeff Rosenstock

Going ‘Full Frontal’ With Alex Garskath of All Time Low

Music Industry Job Board (2/15/15)

That’s all we have for this week. Expect MUCH more content in the days ahead.

Best,

Haulix Weekly Update #70 – “In This House, We Obey The Laws Of Thermodynamics!”

Hello, everyone! Welcome to the very first Haulix company update of 2015. We have had a bit of weird week with the holidays and all, but it will still quite productive around HQ. Before we get to all that however, we typically start these things with some music. Take a few minutes and familiarize yourself with the immense talent of Eden The Cat:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

This week has been a relatively quiet one as far as developments are concerned, but we did discuss a number of big ideas for the year ahead we think you will love. We have a lot of goals for 2015, and with your help we know we can craft a better, more versatile platform than anyone else is able to provide. We should have a few updates soon, but this week we simply don’t have anything far enough long to discuss it. Sorry.

On the blog end of things, we did not let the many parties we weren’t invited to on New Year’s Eve distract us from creating awesome content. We did not run an article a day, but we came close, and we’re incredibly proud of every piece of content we produced. In case you missed anything, here’s a quick review:

New Client Feature – Promo Groups

Hello, everyone! We typically fill this blog with advice and insight on modern music industry, but this afternoon we have an internal announcement we’d like to share instead. We have been receiving requests for a grouping feature since at least 2012, and today we’re rolling out a new tool for clients that does just that. Don’t worry – we’ll have more info on life in the business for you soon.

This blog exists to promote the future of the entertainment industry, and to do that we need input from people like you and your entertainment-loving friends. If you have any questions about the content in this article, or if you have an artist you would like to see featured on this blog, please contact james@haulix.com. We can also be found on Twitter and Facebook.

New Feature – Promo Groups

Greetings!

Continuing our recent string of platform updates, we are pleased to announce Promo Grouping — a feature that will simplify your organizational efforts. This tool is one we have received many requests for, and we think you’ll find implementing it to be incredibly easy:

Sign into your Haulix account. On the Dashboard you will see your current promos listed at the bottom of the screen.

To begin creating Groups, first click the ‘Promos’ tab at the top of the page. When the new page loads, click the ‘Groups’ button at the top of the page. A new window will open and ask you to name your new group. Enter the desired title and click ‘Create.’ Another window will ask you to confirm the information. Agree and your new group will appear on the left rail of the ‘Promos’ page.

Once the Groups have been created, it’s time to organize your promos. Using the list of promos on the left rail, drag and drop each promo name underneath the group you want it assigned to. If you would like to organize the order in which the groups appear, use the arrows next to each group title to move them up or down the list.

You can also assign your new promos to a group as they are made. When editing a promo, click the ‘Groups’ dropdown list on the promo screen and select the group you wish to assign that particular promo to:

The Groups created on these pages and the promo order set in place will immediately be reflected on your Dashboard and Invitation screens.

Deleting a group is as easy as creating one. Return to the ‘Promos’ screen, click ‘Groups,’ then click the red ‘X’ next to the Group you wish to remove. Deleting a group will not delete the promos contained within that group.

Please note: Promo groups cannot be added or deleted by Sub-Administrators. Only Master Account holders are able to create and organize promo groups.

Haulix Weekly Update #60 – “Can you believe we have made sixty of these?”

Good afternoon, everyone! We hope this update finds you doing well and looking forward to the weekend ahead. We have been itching for Friday all week long it seems, and a lot of it is owed to up and comer Makonnen. A member of the OVO family, Makonnen has been climbing the urban charts for the past several months, and earlier this week he took his exposure to new heights with the release of his official video for “Tuesday.” It’s a track dedicated to those who are not afraid to party during the work week, but it plays just the same when the weekend rolls around. Pick up some good vibrations and discover what Makonnen has to offer:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

If you have been following our last several updates then you no doubt understand just how busy our development team has been in recent weeks. From email design to profile creation, our dev team rarely take a moment to catch their breathes. We do not have any major updates to unveil this week, but I am allowed to tell you that there will be a new tool for members of the press available early next week. We’ll send out an email when it’s ready, but you can also count on seeing that update mentioned in next week’s recap.

On the blog side of things, this week was not unlike others in recent moment. We recorded a slew of new interviews, planned even more, and spent at least one full work day focused on transcribing conversations that took place over the last month. The result of all that hard work will soon be available for your entertainment, but until that time we have collected links to all our recent posts for you to review:

Inside Music Podcast #8 – Chris Lantinen (Modern Vinyl)

The Death Of Supply And Demand In The Music Industry

Industry Spotlight: Emily Hakes (Lame-O Records)

A Quick Lesson On How Not To Handle Unplanned Early Reveals

Industry Spotlight: Sam Christie (Bandsintown)

Music Industry Job Board (10/19/14)

If I had to choose one piece of content this week that cannot be missed I would have to say that the latest episode of ‘Inside Music’ takes the cake. I think our podcast has come a long way in its three months of existence, and it seems with each episode we are improving in every possible way. The latest episode is also the best, so please don’t let it pass you by.

That’s all the news and updates we have this week. Please check in over the weekend for an updated job board, as well as the potential for additional new content.

Haulix Weekly Update #58 – Does Anyone Listen To Morning Zoos in 2014?

We have started almost every one of our recent updates by introducing you to an up and coming artist we love. This week we made it a point to highlight the fact we often work with comedians as well, so we thought it would be a nice change of pace to feature one of our favorite comics at the top of this update. You may have heard of Marc Maron because of his hit show on IFC, but he’s been a standup for many years, and his recent ‘Thinky Pain’ special has kept us laughing throughout 2014. You can view the special on Netflix right now, but here’s a clip to get you started:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We have dev updates! We have dev updates!

We have been teasing new product updates for the past several weeks, and in recent days we were finally able to unveil on project that has been taking up a lot of our time.

Our promo distribution platform has long allowed for customization, but this week we took those efforts one step further by allowing for fully transparent promo creation. This means clients have more options than ever before to make each promo reflect the artist its meant to represent. Here’s an example of what a promo created using this feature can look like:

Want to do this with your next promo? Log into your Haulix account and follow these steps:

1. Click on Promos

2. When you have your promo selected, click on the Design button

3. In the upper right Design column, click the drop down list and select New…

4. Give your template a name and Create

5. In the right column, click to upload a background image.  You can either use one wide 2000px image that does not repeat or upload a small tile and repeat it.

6. With your background image uploaded, adjust the other colors and check both of the “transparent” checkboxes.

7. Click the Save button

8. Click to Preview your promo

TIP:  Create a semi-transparent header image (870px wide) and upload it. Your background will blend into the header image.

ON THE BLOG END OF THINGS – we do not have any updates as cool or innovative as the one mentioned above. We do, however, have a lot of new content. In the past seven days we conducted over a dozen interviews, including three new podcast episodes, two artist spotlights, two blogger spotlights, and multiple industry features. To say the fall/winter will be exciting would be an understatement.

Here’s a quick list of everything we ran this week. If you missed anything, now is the time to catch up:

That’s all we have for this week. Thank you for your continued support. Have a safe and fun weekend. We’ll be back tomorrow with another piece of content for you to enjoy.

Best,

Haulix

Haulix Weekly Update #56: Bands With Silly Names Often Produce Great Music

Hello again, everyone! Last week our Recap was delayed on account of our team being in Denver for Riot Fest, but this time around we are ready (on time) to deliver everything you need to know about the latest happenings at Haulix HQ. Before we get there however, I wanted to bring your attention to a great band with an incredibly silly name. Microwave, a group hailing from Georgia, recently released a killer new record that we cannot stop spinning around our office. They released a music video this week for one of our favorite tracks, which you can now view below:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

REMINDER: Scheduled Maintenance

We will be performing general patch updates in all of our servers this Saturday, September 27, from 12:00PM to 4:00PM CST. There will be some minor downtime during the process and services will be unavailable.

Aside from the scheduled maintenance mentioned above, we honestly do not have many development updates to share this afternoon. After a summer spent refining our anti-piracy efforts, our dev team began concentrating their efforts on retooling how promos are created, which is a process that will likely take many weeks to complete in full. Our goal is to begin rolling out minor updates as they are finished, but at this point we have nothing new to share. I can say that customization is one of the big things we are working to improve upon, and hopefully I will be able to detail those efforts in the near future.

Though our travels delayed the flow of content on the blog ever so slightly, we made a lot of strides toward bringing you better, more in-depth coverage in recent days. It all started with Twitter, which lead us to land enough podcast guests to plan ‘Inside Music’ episodes through the beginning of November. We also conducted a slew of interviews, including BandsInTown, MerchBar, Dead Milkmen (!!!!), Tantric frontman Hugo, Jesea from Tragic Hero, and more. Not sure when all that content will run, but please know it’s on the way.

In case you missed anything this week, here is a list of all our recent posts:

Haulix Weekly Update #55: What To Do In Denver When Your Internet Sucks

Hello, everyone! We know we are a couple days behind on getting this update to you, but please do not feel as if you have been forgotten. James, the guy who runs this blog, has been on vacation in Denver and his hotel’s wifi proved less powerful than advertised. He sought a better connection, and we are now able to share our long-awaited weekly recap with all of you.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

That introduction may have lead you to believe the delays were perhaps due, at least in part, to new advancements on the development front. While it is true that we have some major changes in the pipeline, they are not quite ready for the public just. I want to say that we will have something to share by the end of the Month, but considering the fact that date is a little over a week away I’m not sure it will happen. October however, will be insane.

On the blog end of things, the second to last week of September proved incredibly busy. Prior to leaving for Denver, James logged 4 new interview, secured a half dozen features, and did a ton of press outreach. We know you probably do not care all that much about how our publicity efforts are going, but we are working to further our brand recognition through things like the blog and the recently launched podcast.

In case you missed anything this week, here is a roundup of our latest content offerings:

Haulix Weekly Update #55: Fall Is On The Way

For the last couple weeks we have started this recap feature by sharing whatever record was spinning around the Haulix offices the past week. It’s inadvertently becomes something we look forward to sharing with our readers, causing many internal discussions about which clips and tracks should make the cut. Does it need to be this complicated? Not really. We just want to share great music while we are able and go from there. So, this week, please take a moment and meet become acquainted with The Last Bison:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

We hate to keep you in suspense, but the biggest announcement of this week is actually something we have to keep secret for the time being. We can say that we are trying to revolutionize our already industry leading tools in ways that will make promo creation easier than ever for clients, but that’s all we can reveal right now. The rest will be rolling out soon, and you’ll find out about it first right here on this very blog. Maybe next week.

We are able to discuss our blog, and it’s been one hell of a week on that front. The features this week were huge, both in size and reaction from you, the reader(s). We appreciate your continued support and hope to continue bringing you the best industry interviews and advice columns around. You can find a list of the week’s content below:

Journalism Tips #27: A Beginner’s Guide To Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Goin’ Under: A Conversation With Black Trip’s Joseph Tholl

Music Industry Job Board (9/7/14)

We finally submitted our podcast to iTunes, and even though we missed the release of episode 4 we took huge steps to improve the future of the show. A new episode will be out tomorrow, and we might even release a bonus episode sometime early next week.

That’s all we have for now. We’ll be back tomorrow with a new podcast and a feature for bands no touring artist will want to miss.

Thanks for everything.

Haulix Weekly Update #52: Try And Shake Off Taylor Swift. We Dare You.

I never expected to spend this week listening to the latest Taylor Swift single, but every single time I step foot into public “Shake It Off” is booming from whatever store window, car window, or boom box happens to be nearby. At first I was overjoyed. As a longtime fan of Swift, it was nice to know the reigning queen of crossovers was back. After a while, however, that joy turned to frustration because no matter what I did “Shake It Off” could not be shaken. It’s been rattling around in my head for days, and now that the weekend is here I think all hope of forgetting its infectious ways is completely lost. If you somehow missed out on its premiere, check this out:

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

After several weeks of silence on the development front, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that we have a brand new feature rolling out at the beginning of next week. I’ve been told I am not allowed to describe the feature in full at this point, but I can say that it’s an update clients have been asking about for quite some time. It’s not something completely brand new, but it will make changes to our system. Stay tuned!

On the blog end of things, this past week was one of our most productive in recent memory. We recorded two new podcasts, completed six new interviews, and laid the foundation for well over a dozen new advice columns. In case you missed any recent posts, here’s a quick list of links:

Haulix Weekly Update #51: Make Like Ariana Grande & Break Free

Walking outside this morning I felt a chill that let me know summer is slowly beginning to wind down. The temperature may linger in the upper 70s for a while longer, but before you know it the leaves will begin to change. The good news, at least for those of us not working 24/7, is that there are still a few seasonal weekends left before the cold settles in. Don’t sleep on this opportunity for freedom outdoors. It will be gone before you know it.

Each and every Friday we like to take a brief break from our regularly scheduled programming to update and reflect on everything happening at Haulix HQ. We are far more than a music blog, as many of you already know, and posts like this give us an opportunity to share more our efforts with all of you.

REMINDER: We will be performing general patch updates in all of our servers this Saturday, August 16, from12:00PM to 4:00PM CST. There will be some minor downtime during the process and services will be unavailable.

Okay, back to our normal programming. This week was a quiet one on the development front, but that does not mean our team was taking it easy. In fact, the past several days have been filled with hard work and many hours logged by people who avoid sunlight in order to stare at the code that keeps us alive. They’re working to keep things operating as well as they possibly can, and we think they’re doing a swell job. There will be news about future updates soon.

On the blog side of things, the week was one of the most content heavy in recent memory. We ran our normal slew of posts, but also began developing more than a dozen new projects. We even recorded 2 new episodes of our podcast, which will return with improved audio quality early next week. For now, catch up on anything you may have missed by using the links below:
